THE RIFF: Nothing More Important

I had a wonderful weekend away with my family last weekend.  There is nothing better than time spent with the family.

The drive home wasn’t so good, as we had a tyre blowout whilst driving round one of England’s most busy motorways the M25.

To make matters worse, there was no hard shoulder and therefore I had to try to keep the car moving at pace until I could find safety which meant driving across a slip road, luckily there was no traffic coming down at the time.

However, a long story short, after 2 and a half hours waiting on the side of the M25, my wife and children were picked up by highway maintenance and taken to the services.  I waited a further hour for recovery.

There is a lot more to this horrifying story that I can’t really fit into this newsletter.

And then yesterday, as I sat down to start typing out this newsletter for you, I could hear my autistic son panicking and saying “OH NO, OH NO… I’ve lost it, I’ve lost it…”

He had swallowed a rubber toy snake head by accident and was beside himself with worry.

After a call to 111, we were instructed to get to Accident and Emergency within 1 hour.

After a 2 hour wait, we were told that the toy will simply pass through and there would be no point in a X-ray as it wouldn’t show up.  We could return home.

Why am I telling you all this?  Well, these incidents made me realise the importance of what truly matters in life… my family and my time.

Life is too short to be solely consumed by work, especially if it doesn’t bring joy.  My time is precious, and I want to spend it doing the things I love.

Creating music is one of those passions that bring me immense joy, and I want to make the most of every moment.

Moments like these remind me that creating music isn’t just about indulging in a hobby.  No, it’s about living every experience and embracing the things that truly make me happy.

I encourage you to do the same. Spend time with your loved ones and dedicate time to activities that fill you with joy.

Life is a precious gift, and we shouldn’t wait for the perfect moment to pursue what we love.

So, let’s make the most of our time and do the things that make us happy because, in the end, our enjoyment is what truly matters.

Take care and cherish every moment.
